India's position on the index is quite worrying. India ranks 111th position out of 162 countries in Human freedom index, even though the list was published few months (2020) before we think this is important to discuss now. India ranked 94th position in 2019 and in 2020 India falls 17 spots to 111th rank. This is very scary considering the present situation and for the country who got independence more than 70 years before and where freedom comes in our fundamental rights.
Number says that India is doing very poorly in the measure of freedom of speech, which creates points based on freedom of speech, laws and regulations affecting media content, political pressures.
What is Human freedom index?
Before
jumping into the discussion on India’s performance in Human Freedom Index we must
know what is Human freedom index and what are the parameters to measure this. The
Human Freedom Index is a source that can be used to analyze the relationship
between freedom and other social, economic factors, as well as the ways in
which the greatness of freedom meets. The Human Freedom Index presents the
state of human freedom in the world in terms of a broad range of personal,
social and economic freedoms.
On the
scale of 0 to 10, 10 indicates more freedom and 0 the least, the average human
freedom rating for 162 countries in 2018 was 6.93.
Human
freedom is a social concept that recognizes human dignity and is defined here
as a negative freedom or the absence of a barrier to coercion. Because freedom
is so important in nature and contributes to human progress, it is worthwhile
to weigh carefully. The report was published jointly by the Cato Institute and
the Fraser Institute.
76 unique
indicators of personal and economic freedom in the following areas are –
- · Rule of Law
- · Security and Safety
- · Movement
- · Religion
- · Association, Assembly, and Civil Society
- · Expression and Information
- · Identity and Relationships
- · Size of Government
- · Legal System and Property Rights
- · Access to Sound Money
- · Freedom to Trade Internationally
- · Regulation of Credit, Labor, and Business
The index
was published by the American think tank Cato Institute and the Fraser
Institute in Canada. A total of 76 indicators of personal, social and economic
freedom are projected to set at 162 countries from 2008 to 2018. The
institutions said the world had seen a dramatic decline in human freedom since
2008.
India ranks 111 out of 162 countries

says that India is doing very poorly in the measure of freedom of speech, which
creates points based on freedom of speech, laws and regulations affecting media
content, political pressures and control of media content and the dress code of
