In a country like India this question become prominent and we are living in a society which consider government job as a status or power. Things started changing but this query still exist. Competition/Selection

This should be first point to compare, before discussing whether private job or government job is better, we should first consider how to get a private job or government job. Selection process of government job will be very difficult than that of private job. The competition and number of applicants is also very high in Government Job. For 1000 vacancies in government sector there will be 5 lakhs plus application which again makes it difficult to get.

To get a government job you have to attend prelims exam then main exam and, in some cases, you will be having tier-3 exam. When you qualify all these exams then you have to attend group discussion or interview or both. After all these processes then document verification will be done. Even if you qualify all these steps, its not sure that you will get a job in next day. You will be listed in their rank list and called based on your rank and vacancy.

In Private sector you will be having a written exam followed by group discussion and interview. This doesn’t mean that getting a private job is easy, it is also difficult but much better than government job. So, regarding competition and selection process private job is the winner.

 

Job Stability

This is the place where government job has its own important. As you all know that if you get into a government then your life will be stable. Government will not throw your job away in any situation, as you all witnessed that during pandemic no permanent government employee lost their job and above that they also got their salary. Government suspends their employees very rarely and that too because of mistakes or crimes only.

There are many private companies which stands with their employee which we saw during these pandemics but there are many companies who throw their employees out during loss or market fall situation. So, in this sector government job has a clear victory.

 

Salary/Earnings

While discussing about salary then rather than government job or private job, it is very important to discuss about the sector and the position of the employee. While we take the example of a manager or CEO of a private company with that of a government job then private companies are paying very high comparing to government.

When it is about clerk or peon salary, then government is paying more than private. But the very important thing which we should discuss here is the increment or the amount of salary dependencies, in private company the payment will be done based on your performance, so if you perform well you will be paid well, but in government if you do or not you will get your salary and there will be fixed hike of around 5-20 years.

Yeah, it’s true that private are paying very high in many cases but you have to do very high hard work to achieve that, more over you should be updated every day.

 

Holidays and Leave

Holidays and leaves are very important in any profession because this actually makes your living better, if you earn lakhs per month but having no leave or holiday make no sense. If you are in private company you will get sick leave and casual or earned leave. Number of leave may vary depending upon the company and sector. In most the companies you will also get most of the public holidays.

In Government job you will get all public holidays and even more freedom to take leave than private companies. In almost all private companies’ task is most important if you have not completed you may have to work in public holidays also. Even your shift may change or timing may increase based on your pending task.

Yeah, it is true that most of the companies gives extra bonus or payment for working in off days or in night shift. But there is something which is more important is work and life balance. When we consider this aspect government jobs are better than private jobs.

 

Learning & Development

This is a very important term in this era, we all should learn and develop with time. The technologies are changing like anything so it is very important for you to keep updated, regardless of what type of job you have it is very important to keep you updated with technologies and new skills.

When we discuss about the learning curve in government jobs it is almost flatten. You can see many government offices using paper files, even still the job like data entry, stenographers are many in government sectors. It’s always says that study till you get a government job, then take rest. This is almost true because a technology update in most of the government sectors are in very slow phase.

Whereas in Private Job the technologies will be growing or changing in very high phase, so you will be get updated with latest technologies and you will get a ton of opportunities to learn in private companies. In most of the private companies all employees attend trainings, get certified as part of their survival and growth.
